Christmas Pictures

A while ago, we went and took family Christmas pictures at JC Penny's.

Our first appointment did not go well. Our photographer could not keep Sammy's interest and her camera was not working because her battery was acting up. My child was all over the place. He would not sit still and every time we would try to hold him to get a family picture, he was not happy. We ended up only getting two decent pictures. Needless to say, we rescheduled our appointment. I was not happy that we had to reschedule because it is not easy getting Sammy all dressed up, let alone getting myself to look half way decent.

Our second appointment went much better. Our photographer this time seemed much more efficient. She was more energetic, patient with Sammy, and a lot faster. She also attempted several more cute poses. Sammy was still all over the place but a lot more cooperative. We walked out with a handful of cute pictures. It was a much more pleasant experience.

Today, I went to pick up our pictures. When the receptionist pulled them out of the envelope, I noticed a yellow sticky note on most of them. When I asked what it meant, she told me that my photographer shook the camera and that the pose that was marked was not as clear as they would have liked. (Of course, this was our favorite pose and the one we purchased the most of.) Again, I was annoyed. The girl told me that we could re-order a different pose or reschedule a new appointment. Well, I was not going to mess with re-scheduling or re-ordering so I chose to just take the pictures since you cannot tell they are blurry except for in the larger pictures and it is very mild. She offered a couple of promotion pictures to me for free as an apology gift. We now have a bunch of semi-blurry Christmas pictures but there is no way I am doing it again ... way too much work!

I never knew that talking pictures could be such a stressful experience!

Thanksgiving 2009

I know it is late but I forgot to blog about our Thanksgiving this year. We decided that we wanted to have low key Thanksgiving, close to home, this year. We made plans with Rob's Aunt Kathy and Uncle Stan. They have a adorable cabin up in the San Bernadino Mountains. We thought it would be nice to only travel an hour away from home and spend Thanksgiving in the mountains. We drove up Wednesday night, had dinner, and played a board game. It was fun night. Thursday, after breakfast, we drove up to the lookout towers. Stan and Kathy work in the lookout towers. They volunteer their time twice a month to watch for fires in the mountains. The towers were at the two of the highest peaks on the mountain. They had a beautiful view of the entire mountain and nearby surrounding cities. It was very neat to see. When we got home, we sat down to beautiful meal. Kathy is an amazing cook. She prepared a moist turkey, delicious stuffing, roasted garlic mashed potatoes with homemade gravy, homemade bread, and yummy apple and pumpkin pie. We were stuffed! Overall, we had a very relaxing time with family. It was nice to spend time with Stan and Kathy. They are such great people and we always have a great time when we visit with them.
Our views from the lookout towers ... beautiful!

Decorating for Christmas

Last week we started decorating our house for Christmas. I am very excited to decorate this year. In the past, we have never really decorated our home. This isn't because we didn't want to but because we never had a large space to do so and we always traveled during the holidays. Now that we have a larger house and we are traveling less, we decided to decorate for Christmas this year. We haven't done too much. We put up our tree, decorated our guest bathroom, put up our stockings, and put up a village and nativity scene. Our plan is to add to our Christmas decor a little every year. Rob and I both really love Christmas villages. My grandma always had one that I loved to admire as a child and Rob's family had one as well. We also really like the idea of having an advent calendar every Christmas so that we can count down to Christmas in an exciting way with our family. We are excited because we found a village set that is also an advent calendar. Each piece has little compartments that you open everyday of December until Christmas. We are very excited to start this tradition with our family. I also found the cutest stocking hooks. They double as stocking hooks and a decorative Christmas train. They even light up! We bought plastic balls for the bottom of our tree so that Sammy wouldn't break the few nice ornaments that we do have. We bought a star for the top of our tree that is a little to heavy so it leans some but when we eventually get a larger tree it will be perfect. Finally, we bought simple snowman decorations for our tiny guest bathroom to give it a some Christmas cheer. Our Christmas decor is far from complete but I am excited about the progress we have made.

A Week of Thankfulness ... Day 7

Most importantly, I am thankful for my faith. I am thankful that Christ died for me. I am thankful that I am forgiven. I am thankful that He answers prayers and that He always provides. My faithfulness in Christ has taught me compassion, dedication, love, understanding, and self-control. I would not be who I am today if it was not for the love and mercy that Christ has shown in my life. Jesus is my rock and salvation. Without my savior's continuous provision, I would have a lot less to be grateful for.

A Week of Thankfulness ... Day 6

I am thankful for my health and the health of my family.

I am thankful that I am a healthy young woman. I am thankful that I can get up every morning and run after my 15 month old son. I am thankful that even though I have a job where I am surround by germs, I rarely get sick.

I am thankful that my husband is healthy. I am thankful that I can watch him play with our son. I am thankful that I have a healthy husband who is able to provide for us.

I am thankful that I gave birth to a perfect, healthy baby boy. I am thankful that at five weeks early, Sammy came out screaming with a perfect set of lungs. I know things could have been much different. I am thankful that Sammy's heart murmor is gone and that we now have a perfectly healthy little boy.

God has protected us and kept us healthy and strong. I am blessed to have my health. I am blessed that the ones I love the most are alive, healthy, and thriving.

A Week of Thankfulness ... Day 5

I am thankful for my home. I am thankful that God has provided a beautiful home for us to live in. We may not own this house but I am a so thankful that we can afford to borrow it. We are so blessed to live in a large house were Sammy can grow, run, and play. I am thankful that we live in a safe neighborhood where we can go on walks and feel safe to let Sammy play. There are times when I desire to buy a house of my own but when I remember all the people who live in poverty or have no home at all, I am grateful for what we have. I am thankful that we have a roof over our heads, beds to sleep in, and food on the table everyday. I am blessed to have a beautiful home where we can create wonderful memories.

A Week of Thankfulness ... Day 4

I am thankful for my job.

I am thankful that I get paid to make a difference in the lives of children. I am grateful that I am able to be an example and a role model to my students. I am thankful every time one of my students lights up when they finally understand something that they never understood before. I am thankful that everyday, I walk into a classroom full of twenty-four adorable, smiling students who are eager to learn. I am thankful that everyday I receive a least three hugs and at least three students that say, "Mrs. Webster you're the best teacher ever!"

Most of all, I am thankful that I have a job this year. In our current economic times, I am so grateful to have job when so many others do not. God has protected and provided for my family in so many ways and for that I am eternally grateful!

I am blessed with such a rewarding and fulfilling career.

I am thankful that we still make time to get together twice a month to spend time with one another. I cherish our "girl's nights"! I am thankful that God has blessed many of them with wonderful Godly men in their lives.
